John and Emily moved from their home of 42 years and a lot of their stuff was scattered, mostly to their children.
Objects and their stories. Then stories about the stories. What do you remember? What connections can you make? What can we gather together?

This is a photo I took on October 22, 2006. The van was loaded with stuff going to me in Boston, Susan in New York, and Johnny in California. Stuff went to Rob in Texas mostly by UPS. Since Jeannie and Carol live nearly, they arranged to get their stuff in smaller batches. Mom and Dad moved with the stuff they were keeping about a week later.
I love this photo, David and would like a copy of it. The oak tree looks maginificent. Think of all the lovely times we had sitting on the porch, on the black bench, looking over our shoulder and into the spread of the branches.
This is one of my favorite pictures of our house. Remember playing ball in this big yard?
I also love this picture! LOTS of ball games back there in my years, but "kick the can" and 'echo" with all my Round Hill Road buddies (David Linton, David Zerkel, Sarah and Dan Bork, Tim and Cathy Smith, the Warner kids, Sean, Heather and Matt, etc, etc) are what come to mind more than anything - some very good times! I also have great memories of the porch with the same kids but even more of family gatherings. I recall lots crab feasts and cook outs (on the charcoal weber grill) in the summertime - I have vivid memories of watching brother David meticulously dissecting each crab to get out every ounce of meat available - I remember watching more than eating . . . that is until I turned 18 and starting drinking beer - than spending all that time eating crabs made more sense.
Great picture David!
XOXO,
Rob
I also recall a couple of beautiful weddings in this backyard. One with a huge white tent on a breezy, sunny May day in 1976 with Mrs. Toms' delicious chicken salad puffs and county ham sandwiches, and the bar set up on the porch. Lots of friends, family and neighbors roaming around, laughing, talking, drinking and eating. I can still see Rob and David Zerkel running around.
Rob, You'll be glad to know the weber grill is still going strong at Jeannie and Kevin's lake house. We had scrumptous filets and tuna on the grill last summer.
Who remembers making homemade ice cream in the garage and taking turns on the churn?
Thanks, Mom and Dad for passing on your stuff along with the great memories- we are blessed!
yeah I remember the homemade ice cream - wonderful stuff! I also remember an attempt at wine . . . somethings better left to the professionals I suppose.
Hi, everyone!
My first posting to the Blog! What a wonderful idea, David! Here's a memory....Mom turning us onto Moon bathing!! We took a blanket out back and laid under the stars and moon...so peaceful..so serene...so Mom!!!
Jeannie
Oh my gosh, I forgot all about our Moon Bathing. You're right... peace and serenity with our Mom under the moon.
I also recall laying out in the yard many nights and star gazing with Cathy and Nancy Corson. We pitched a tent a time or two and would lay our heads out of it and gaze into the heavens. That was back when the oak was just a youngster. Does anyone have a photo of the backyard in the early years?
Moon Bathing! Moon Bathing?
We had such an abundant and amazing backyard - always a pleasure to visit. And the best screened porch ever in the summer.
